Average Session Duration

Average session duration is a Google Analytics metric that calculates the mean length of all sessions within a specified date range, where a session is a group of user interactions within a 30-minute window. It is a proxy for user engagement and content quality.

This metric is tracked in Google Analytics under Audience > Overview and can be segmented by traffic channel, device, or landing page. A low average session duration may signal poor content relevance or UX issues, which can be further diagnosed using heatmap tools like Hotjar.
