Technical SEO
HTML Sitemap
An HTML sitemap is a webpage that lists all or most of the important pages of a website in a structured, human-readable format, designed primarily to help users navigate a site rather than as a machine-readable instruction for crawlers (unlike XML sitemaps). Large websites use HTML sitemaps as a navigational aid and as a supplementary internal linking mechanism.
HTML sitemaps improve crawl depth for deep pages and provide additional internal link equity. Screaming Frog can identify all internally linked pages from an HTML sitemap, and Google Search Console tracks which sitemap-sourced URLs get indexed. CMS plugins like Yoast SEO can automatically generate both HTML and XML sitemaps.
