Crawl Depth
Crawl depth refers to how many clicks away from the homepage a search engine bot must travel to reach a given page on a website. Pages with a shallow crawl depth (1–3 clicks from home) are typically crawled and indexed more frequently and reliably than those buried deep in the site architecture.
Crawl depth is visualized using Screaming Frog's site visualization features and site crawl reports from Ahrefs, SEMrush, or DeepCrawl. Reducing crawl depth for important pages — through improved internal linking and site architecture — is a key technical SEO optimization measured through Google Search Console coverage reports.
