Link Building
UGC Tag
The rel="ugc" attribute is an HTML link attribute introduced by Google in September 2019 to identify hyperlinks found within user-generated content (UGC) — such as blog comments, forum posts, wiki contributions, and social media profile links. It signals to Google that these links are not editorially placed by the site owner.
UGC tag compliance is audited using Screaming Frog's custom link attribute extraction and Ahrefs' Backlink Analytics. Websites that host large volumes of user-generated content (forums, review platforms) should implement rel="ugc" on outbound links to protect their domain from being used as a vehicle for link manipulation.
