Meta Keywords
Meta keywords is an HTML <meta> tag that historically listed the target keywords of a web page directly in the page's source code. Google officially stopped using the meta keywords tag as a ranking signal in 2009, and most major search engines now ignore it. Bing has stated it uses meta keywords only as a spam signal.
While meta keywords hold no SEO value for Google, they can be audited using Screaming Frog to identify legacy implementations. Some competitor intelligence tools can read meta keywords to understand a competitor's keyword targets, though this is increasingly rare as the tag has been abandoned by most SEO practitioners.
