Compound Anchor Text

Compound anchor text is a hybrid form of anchor text that combines elements of multiple anchor text types — for example, blending a brand name with a target keyword such as "Ahrefs backlink checker" or "Moz domain authority tool." This creates a natural-sounding anchor while still including keyword relevance signals.

Compound anchor text distribution within a backlink profile is analyzed using Ahrefs' Anchors report or SEMrush's Backlink Analytics, which categorize anchors by type. A proportion of compound anchors in a link profile is considered a sign of organic, natural link acquisition by Google.
