Technical SEO
Path/Subfolder
In URL structure, a subfolder (or subdirectory) is a directory within the main domain that organizes website content into categories — for example, "example.com/blog/" or "example.com/products/shoes/." A path is the sequence of directories and filenames in a URL that specifies the resource location on the server.
Subfolder-based URL structures are considered by Google to be part of the root domain, passing full domain authority and ranking signals. This is preferred over subdomain structures for most international and topical SEO strategies. Screaming Frog and Ahrefs segment performance data by subfolder to analyze topical authority and traffic distribution.
